From dawns early light until the twilights last gleaming, these long summer days brim with opportunities to experience the North States wonders.
The William B. Ide Adobe State Historic Park in Red Bluff is a delightful spot to learn about the early Gold Rush days, or to sit under a colossal oak by the river and enjoy a quiet picnic. Or take some binoculars to Anderson River Park an assortment of species is attracted to this area’s diverse habitat. Then, venture up to Mount Shasta for a charming, old fashioned Independence Day celebration. This three day festival is a flashback to the small town celebrations of yesteryear.
“We're proud Americans who are proud of our Italian heritage,” says Sons of Italy President Jim Nobili, and he invites us all to join the fun during Paesano Days on July 31 and August 1. Authentic Italian food, bocce ball, crafts, music, dancing benvenuto!
Then take a behind-the-scenes peek at Majical, a Latin band that has spiced up the local music scene for 13 years. Bandleader Jorge Arguello has given the group a musical makeover and shares that revitalization with us.
Many of our neighbors are making fireworks, including Ricky Ray, the Shasta High graduate who has exploded onto the Canadian Football League scene, leading the Edmonton Eskimos to three Grey Cups. “You go through a lot of ups and downs, and just react to opportunities that come your way,” Ray says. “I have always tried to work hard and be prepared for any situation that comes my way. None of it was planned; it was just hard work and a little bit of luck.” Also creating sparks is Redding Masters Softball, a slowpitch league for people age 50 and older.
