Snow Days

January 01, 2009

Planning for the new year is invigorating and daunting at the same time. Let Enjoy guide you through 2009 with beautiful and lasting experiences, new beginnings, new places to roam and new adventures to explore in the North State. This year, creativity will play a key role as we try to stretch our dollars.

Let's start with our own natural resource, snow! OK, it's been a little slow to support our fun, as weather has been warmer than average this winter. But, when the sparkle of snow in the frosty winter morning shines upon our faces we will be ready with our sleds, snowshoes, snowboards and skis. The warm breath of the sled dogs creates smoke signals for the North State to take head - it’s fresh powder, and it only takes a little gas to get there.

A non-traditional form of entertainment is a new offering that brings a great show and dinner into a historic theater that’s usually dark on weeknights. The Cascade Theatre has given us many tasty live shows, but now “Dinner and a Movie” dishes its audience a food-themed movie followed by a cooking demonstration headlining Doni Greenberg.

Snowed over by all that clutter? Make way for a fresh start by getting rid of it. Start with your makeup bag: carry only two lip glosses instead of 10, and did you know to toss mascara every three months? After your makeup is tidy, move to your closet – use our groovy little trick that uses hangers to identify the clothes you don’t wear (for most people, it’s 80 percent of their wardrobe). You’ll be amazed how much better you will feel when you open that tidy closet every day.

On the days you wake up feeling as though you want to crawl back into bed, Enjoy has something for you. A spankin’ new section, “5 for $25,” will introduce you to five places that provide recreation and stress relief without stressing out your bank account. For example, a trip to Schreder Planetarium costs $8 and gives you a fascinating multimedia presentation that scientifically simulates the night sky. To the moon, Alice!

This year, when you feel like you are being pulled by your pigtails (as was the case for one of our Redding residents) or you simply want a cheap retreat, look to us as your personal guide for a Happy New Year. It’s on the house!

THE MYRIAD'S RANDY MILLER Story: Todd McBain A note from the editor: Some of you may remember the feature story we did on Randy Miller in our February 2007 issue. We were so excited for him as the newest member of The Myriad and have had the pleasure of watching the band gain international popularity. We were awestruck watching them perform at the Cascade Theatre in March and then again in October. Our original intent was to provide our readers with a story on the success o... More

It is, but not as amazing as the athletes behind this scenic winter wonderland. They are sled dogs, and Pat Campbell knows how to make magic with these animals. Than... More

It helped boost my self-esteem— I’d feel so much better after." Those were feelings that Crosetti wanted to share, and volunteer... More
