Spring Ahead
March 01, 2008
Ask yourself, “What will our future hold in the next ten years?” We often look to the past to prepare for the future. In days gone by, many of us took more time to think, believe and do, probably because we weren’t overwhelmed by our high tech era and all the distractions that come with it.
Simplification is one word to describe the way of the future. Many of us relocated to the North State because we longed for the simple, slower-paced life of days past. Take Marcella Bishop from “How does your garden grow?” Her favorite part of planning her garden is to snuggle up in her chair with her “Burpee” catalogue to choose seeds. Others have simplified their lives by returning to their roots, literally, establishing wineries in majestic Trinity County and sharing their hard earned yield with us.
Another reason to honor the past is for opportunities to celebrate the future. This year, Jack’s Restaurant is celebrating 70 years of treating people to fabulous steaks and wonderful service. People from all walks of life have visited this hidden, but well-talked about, treasure. It was even honored by the New York Times. Why are they so successful? Besides having amazing food they have been successful in preserving an era, a time when warm hospitality and great tasting food was what your name stood for.
At Enjoy, we celebrate March by looking back in order to spring ahead. We treasure lifetimes of experience and untold stories that our community can embrace and be inspired by. From gardening to gold mining, from recycling old to help build new, we look to the past to help build our future. We hope this issue of Enjoy leaves you with an appreciation for the past but excited for the future.
