Free Spirits: Artists & Wild Horses
A Collaborative Multimedia Exhibit to benefit the Wild Horse Sanctuary in Shingletown CA
Set to open during the Trinity County Arts Council’s monthly Art Cruise, this group exhibit intends to bring awareness to the plight of the wild horse in our modern American landscape, and draws attention to the struggle of wild horse advocates to protect these majestic mustangs and the land on which they depend to survive. Award winning artist Kimberly Piazza’s endeavor has grown out of a lifelong passion to preserve the heritage and advocate for humane management of America’s wild horse population. The show will feature thought-provoking depictions of wild horses and their habitats in various media by artists from all over the western U.S. and Northern California. A portion of all proceeds from this exhibit will be donated to the Wild Horse Sanctuary in Shingletown CA, the first wild horse refuge in the United States, and to the American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the protection and preservation of wild horses and burros. Donated funds will help defray the cost of care for rescued wild horses and burros at the sanctuary, and assist with funding legal and legislative efforts being undertaken by the American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign. The Wild Horse Sanctuary is a non-profit foundation dedicated to the protection and preservation of America's wild horses. The 5,000 acre sanctuary is home to over 300 rescued mustangs and burros, and is open to the public for wild horse viewing on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 am - 4 pm. Viewings are free to the public. The sanctuary also offers “two and three-day trail rides where guests can view herds of wild horses in a natural setting” from May through October, for a fee. The Wild Horse Sanctuary is located at 5796 Wilson Hill Road, Shingletown, CA. For more information, please call (530) 474-5770 or visit www.wildhorsesanctuary.org. The American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign (www.wildhorsepreservation.org) is 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation dedicated to preserving American wild horses and burros in viable free-roaming herds for generations to come, as part of our national heritage.
