"Birds of a Feather" Exhibition
Multi-media art of Tamar Assaf
Birds of a Feather is a multi-media exhibition of paintings, sculpture, and short movies that explore human influence on the wild. Crows, flamingos and ducks are all birds that are profoundly influenced by human activity. In this exhibition these birds are depicted from unique, close-up, cropped compositions, concentrating on the distilled qualities that distinguish and define them. Born in Israel, Tamar Assaf now resides in California’s bay area and has since early 2000. Harnessing her education in Natural Sciences and Art, combined with her views on conservational and social aspects of the world we live in, Assaf’s artwork is a subtle commentary addressing human influence on nature and the understanding that entire ecosystems function as a delicate balance of species interacting in a woven tapestry of interdependencies. Her sculptures and fragmental images are her way of documenting the loss of animals from the wild and the changing ecosystems.
