Spring to the Symphony

Shasta Symphony Orchestra Concert

The final concert of the Shasta Symphony Orchestra will feature William Grant Still’s jazz and blues influenced masterwork, “Symphony No. 1”. The composer subtitled the work “The Afro-American Symphony,” because he based each movement on a different form of music that originated within African American culture in the early twentieth century. Opening the concert will be the exciting and energetic “Shasta Fanfare” by Michigan composer Cormac Cannon, originally written for Dwayne Corbin’s first concert with the Shasta Symphony Orchestra back in 2010. A major highlight of the concert will be performances by the 2015 Student Concerto and Aria Competition winners: tenor Brian Lizarraga will sing arias by Mozart and Puccini, and oboist Amber Jensen will play selections from the Oboe Concerto of Vaughan Williams. The concert, led by conductor Dr. Dwayne Corbin, will take place Saturday April 16th at 7:30 pm and Sunday April 17th at 3:00 pm, at the Shasta College Theatre. Tickets are $10 adult; $8 senior; $5 student w/ ID and will be available at the door, or on the web starting April 1st. Please visit ShastaSymphony.org for more information!
