The Oaksong Music Society presents Tony Furtado
MASTER OF THE BANJO AND SLIDE GUITAR – FUSING BLUEGRASS, COUNTRY, SWING, JAZZ, FOLK AND CELTIC
The Oaksong Society for Preservation of Way Cool Music is proud to open our 2015/2016 indoor concert series with Tony Furtado. Tony’s eclectic sound includes influences from swing, jazz style, Celtic-folk, and old-timey music, and he continues to blend his unique mastery of both banjo and slide guitar. Furtado has often been compared to Ry Cooder and Paul Simon in his latest albums as he guides his attention to detail and proclivity for traditional music into the pop framework. Onstage, whether playing with a band or solo, he owns the room, mixing stories of his travels with musicianship that is off the charts. For this performance Tony will play as part of a trio, featuring Sam Howard (from the Ruth Moody Band) on acoustic bass and Luke Price (2014 Grand National Old-Time Fiddle Champion) on fiddle and guitar. The door opens at 7:15 p.m. with the show starting at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 and student tickets are $10 (18 years and under with valid Student ID). Tickets are available at The Music Connection, 3086 Bechelli Lane, Redding. Call (530) 223-2040 for info and tickets.
