McArthur Burney Falls State Park Visitor Center Grand Opening

California State Parks and the McArthur-Burney Falls Interpretive Association invite the public to the grand opening of their new Visitor Center on Sunday, May 17, 2015 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. The new Visitor Center features a variety of exhibits and artifacts that display some of the local history of California. Free admission to the park, ranger led interpretative activities and refreshments are available during the celebration. The six-decade old building located in McArthur Burney Falls State Park is the park’s newest attraction featuring a complete internal facelift and interactive exhibits to entertain children of all ages. Learn about birds from Audubon Society members with telescopes. “This center has been a long time coming, and will definitely enhance our visitor’s experience to the park,” said Cascade Sector Superintendent Lori Martin. “It will introduce our visitors to the things that make this place special, from its unique flora and fauna, geology, cultural history and recreational opportunities. I am especially interested in seeing our visitors utilize the science lab area, designed to offer a chance for hands on exploration.” “We are pleased the new exhibits and hands-on activities in the Visitor Center will provide more information about the rocks and water, animals, birds and plants of this very special place,” stated Catherine Camp, president, McArthur Burney Falls Interpretative Association. A park tour begins with a 17-minute film shown continuously inside the Visitor Center. An interactive diorama of the surrounding area, Burney Falls and miniature trees demonstrate the effect seasonal precipitation has on the local watershed. In the Nature Center use a microscope to exam rocks located within the park. Do as the sign states - pull out a drawer to discover bird skulls and look at their faux mud encased footprints. Eat a meal on one of the sheltered picnic tables before exploring the park’s 910 acres of natural wonders. Join your friends at McArthur Burney Falls State Park for the grand opening or visit the park later this year. The park never closes and water continually drops over the 129-foot Burney Falls.
