Guests are invited to the Mansion on Friday, Oct. 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. to help celebrate the 150th Anniversary of California State Parks through 57 creatively designed art quilts. The unique art quilts were designed by members of the Quilters’ Sew-Ciety of Redding, Inc. after a challenge was issued to design a quilt depicting one of the California State Parks.
The Opening Night will begin in the BMSHP Visitor Center where nine district quilts will be featured along with a number of other artistic quilts. The remaining 47 quilts will be on display throughout all three floors of the Mansion; many relating to the history in each room. Cards hung beneath the quilts provide information about the park, materials used, and the inspiration behind the artist’s design.
During the night, visitors will be able to chat with docents and some of the quilters to get insight into the creative processes behind the quilts. Guests can also enjoy refreshments provided by the Bidwell Mansion Association.
