Tribute to the Trees Concert
Experience the Summer Solstice in the beautiful surroundings of the Dunsmuir Botanical Gardens with the sounds of the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra carried on the warm breezes of the first day of summer. The 24th annual Tribute to the Trees will again offer an eventful evening as the Gate opens at 3:30 PM with an alfresco supper served at 5:00 PM followed by the concert at 6:30 PM. A Silent Auction, raffle, the Botanical Gardens boutique and a full bar will be available. Jory Fankuchen, a PACO coach and teacher, will make his solo debut on this concert. Mr. Fankuchen has performed in concert with many chamber ensembles and orchestras, including the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra and Berkeley Symphony. His musical studies include, a Master of Music from the New England Conservatory and a Bachelor of Music from the San Francisco Conservatory. The Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra, under the leader ship of Music Director and Conductor, Benjamin Simon will present a concert of music entitled “Across the Centuries” which will include Ralph Vaughn Williams’ 1910 Fantasia inspired by the 16th century melody by Thomas Tullis, Ernest Bloch’s soulful, Baal Shem, and the music of Handel that still charms and inspires after 250 years. The ticket cost is $45 for the supper and concert and $20 for Concert Only with open lawn seating. The alfresco supper will be catered by Chef Kate Chadwick of Dunsmuir’s Dogwood Diner. Deadline for dinner reservations is June 16. Those who choose to attend the concert only are also invited to come early to enjoy the pre-concert activities and bring a picnic supper. Proceeds from this benefit concert will enable the Dunsmuir Botanical Gardens to improve and expand the plant collections within the Gardens and provide horticultural education opportunities for all who visit.
