Description:

The Trinity Alps Chamber Music Festival continues its seventh season with a program celebrating music of the night. “Nocturnes: Nightfall Illuminated” will be a concert tracing the history of night music, from the elegant and lyrical works of Frederic Chopin and Nikolai Medtner, to exotic impressionist visions of Debussy and Ravel, to modern representations of darkness by composers such as Aaron Copland, Karol Szymanowski, and John Cage.

The RossoRose duo, pianist Amy Zanrosso and violinist Alisa Rose, will be the featured artists for the concerts, and will be joined on stage by festival director and pianist Ian Scarfe. RossoRose have built impressive national and international careers, and have specialized in bringing to life the entire range of violin-piano duet repertoire, from the classical to the most modern. As proof of their dedication to bringing new music into the world, they will be giving the premiere performances of Rose's new work, “Nocturne for America.” Rose's music is inspired by her musical lineage, which includes folk and bluegrass styles as well as her rigorous classical training. This work was commissioned and is presented thanks to support from the San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music.

Another highlight of the program will be when Scarfe and Zanrosso join forces to perform a 4-hand piano duet version of Maurice Ravel's “Rapsodie Espagnole.” An impressionistic vision of nights in Spain, the music moves between atmospheric night music and various evocative Spanish festivities, including two characteristic dances, the “Malagueña” and the “Habanera”.

In fitting with this organization's mission of making music available to everyone in these communities, all public concerts are listed as free events, with a suggested donation of $20 per person to benefit the organization.
