Joining Salmon Festival and Dutch Oven Cook-Off - Family Fun
ARTISTS in ACTION Joins the SALMON FESTIVAL for a Day of Family FUN Saturday, October 14, the Artists in Action Festival, uptown in the Historic District of Weaverville, is joining the Salmon Festival at the Highland Art Center Meadow and the Dutch Oven Cook-Off at the Jake Jackson Museum to make Weaverville the place to be for families and art lovers. 40 minutes from Redding or a scenic drive from the coast drops you into a valley where you step back in time to an 1850s Gold Rush era with brick buildings, metal shutters, spiral staircases and rustic elegance; refashioned into art galleries, unique specialty shops, restaurants and saloons with fascinating museum and awe inspiring Chinese Joss House Temple. Brilliant Autumn colors create the backdrop as the sidewalks come alive with painters, sculptors, jewelers, and musicians, each demonstrating their unique craft from 11 to 3pm from the band stand to Hwy 3. The Trinity County Arts Council’s event includes an opportunity for you to tie dye a t-shirt and Chalk the Walk. Bridget Carson will let you create a block print of your Chinese Zodiac Animal. The band Moonshine will set the tempo with great dancing music at Angela’s Bead Art deck. John Garrett and Keiki Yamasaki invite you to glaze and RAKU fire a ceramic vessel in the Highland meadow. More than 25 award winning artists from Shasta and Trinity Counties will share techniques and answer questions. A variety of tasty specialty foods are available at each event including the Humboldt Cookie Company with handcrafted cookie & coconut ice cream sandwiches. Delicious fire roasted salmon will be cooked in the traditional style of the Wintu Indians at the Trinity River Salmon Festival. Buy a ticket to sample the tasty and creative dishes that are offered by 6 to 8 Dutch Oven cooking teams at the Jake Jackson Museum. Join us for an intimate authentic experience. October 14 will be a day to remember for the entire family, just 40 minutes from Redding.
