166th Anniversary signing of Cottonwood Treaty
Indigenous Peoples' Day- Shasta Historical Society and Turtle Bay Exploration Park invite the public to join tribal leaders Wednesday, August 16 at 7:00 pm for a commemoration of the 166th anniversary of the signing of the Cottonwood Treaty, an often overlooked but vital part of regional history. The signing of the treaty made at Reading's Ranch between leaders of the Wintu and Yana peoples and the U.S. Government. The treaty would have established an approximately 25 square mile Indian reservation that included most of Redding east of the Sacramento River.
