Whiskeytown Paint Out!
Whiskeytown National Recreation Area June 4th, 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The National Park Service working in partnership with the Friends of Whiskeytown and Redding Bank of Commerce is hosting a Paint Out! at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. The Paint Out! will include a plein air painting competition, art show, and sale. Artists working in the mediums of oil, watercolor, acrylics, pastels, charcoal, and pencil have been invited to compete. Painters from Mt. Shasta to San Francisco will arrive on Friday to have their clean canvases officially stamped before proceeding into the field to paint over the following two days. On Sunday, June 4th the public is invited to join the artists for a display of their work at the Whiskeytown Visitor Center. At 11:00 a.m., an official juror will select 1st place ($1,000), 2nd place ($300), and 3rd place ($100). There will also be special recognition for best work by a student artist under 18 years old ($100). Art will be available for sale until 3:00 p.m. Visitors are invited to negotiate purchase prices with the artists. 40% of all sales will go to the Friends of Whiskeytown (501 C 3 not for profit) to support the park’s Artist-in-Residence program. The Friends of Whiskeytown and the National Park Service have been hosting an Artist-in-Residence program at Whiskeytown for the past 15 years, attracting professional and talented artists from across the United States.
