Getting to know Denise Bertagna and her jewelry, sold exclusively at Enjoy the Store.
Why did you decide to start making jewelry?
“I am a creative person and when I see something that I like I try to see if I can make it. So it started that way, I didn't take a class, no one showed me how, I just taught myself.”
How long have you been making jewelry?
“About six years now, my husband retired and I quit my job in visual display and I needed something to do to keep my creative mind going.”
What all do you make?
“I think it is better to ask what do I like to make, because I can make just about anything. I like to make necklaces and bracelets, they are fun to me and I get a lot of joy making them. Earrings are not my favorite thing to make, but I still make them.”
How do you make it?
“Mostly I do bead work. I use different materials, silk cord, cotton cording, different types of chain, leather. I'm always ready to try new things, if I see something new I bring it back to my workroom to see what I can make with it. One time I bought a necklace tore it apart and made a new necklace for me to wear at my daughter's wedding.”
What’s been your favorite part about making jewelry?
“Making something beautiful from nothing, just a thought or an idea I may have, and I always let the piece speak for itself, because they always do. They come to life and that is very satisfying.”
Where do you sell your products?
“I started out just making things for myself and my daughters. Then I started giving pieces to friends and those friends and family pushed me to sell them. One friend told me to take them to Enjoy the Store, so I did. That is the only place, exclusively at Enjoy the Store, and I have for the last 3 years. I have my long silk necklaces, shortie necklaces, some earrings and my Boho tassel necklaces.”
Do you have a website/Are you on social media?
“I have a Facebook page, it's called Stylewyse. I post pictures of what I take into Enjoy the Store mostly, sometimes I will post other items, but mostly for Enjoy. If anyone has questions you can contact me through my Facebook page.”
