Family reunions celebrate our families’ traditions and heritage. They give us the opportunity to reacquaint ourselves with family members that we don’t get to visit with often, and introduce our children to aunts, uncles and cousins they may have never met. The North State is full of wonderful settings to hold the perfect family reunion. If it were up to you to plan your family reunion, where in the North State would you hold it?

Anderson River Park: There’s something for every member of the family here. Have a family softball or soccer game, or go fishing or boating on the Sacramento River. Enjoy the hiking and equestrian trails, tennis courts, barbecue areas and playground for the little ones. 1887 Howard Street Anderson, CA (530) 378-6656 www.ci.anderson.ca.us/recfacilities.asp

Eagle Lake: About 16 miles north of Susanville and 5,100 feet above sea level, Eagle Lake is the second-largest natural freshwater lake in California. North Eagle Lake Campground’s 20 developed campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. 2950 Riverside Drive Susanville, CA 96130 (530) 257-0456 www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/eaglelake/eaglelakecamping.html

Heritage Guest House: This family-oriented bed and breakfast is surrounded by flora and fauna - you’ll be mystified by the spectacular views. You can even rent the entire house for your event! 360 Lowden View Lewiston, CA 96052 (530) 623-2810 www.trinityheritageguesthouse.com

Houseboating on Shasta Lake: If your family craves being on the water, a houseboat family reunion may be up your alley. Tow your ski boat alongside the houseboat and spend the day wakeboarding, tubing or skiing. Find a quiet cove to land at night to barbecue and catch up with family members. www.shastalake.com

Lake Mendocino: In the heart of Northern California wine country, close to the Pacific Ocean and magnificent redwood forests, Lake Mendocino offers many recreational opportunities. With campgrounds galore and plenty of hotels, your family is sure to make lasting memories. 1160 Lake Mendocino Dr. Ukiah, CA 95482-9404 (877) 444-6777 or (707) 462-7581 www.lakemendocino.com/camping.htm
